Changing PHP Version

I already searched about changing php version and saw alot of thread here about it. But I dont know if im the only one having a problem when I try to change the php version.. I created a .htaccess file in /home/touchof2/public_html/tog/.htaccess and paste this code

AddType application/x-httpd-php54 .php .php5 .phtml

But when I try to access my website it downloads a text file.

Im a using a free hosting.

you do not use the [ .htaccess ] file to change your account's PHP version
