I have a subdomain here (www.christurnbullwx.x10host.com) that I would like to point to a domain which I just purchased through CloudFlare, which is www.christurnbullwx.com. I put in a Type A record and Type CNAME record into my CloudFlare dashboard, but it's not working right. I also put the CloudFlare name servers into the x10host dns management section. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.
  1. When I type christurnbullwx.com, It just says "Apache is working normally."
  2. I tried changing my WordPress site address and Wordpress address to https://www.christurnbullwx.com from https://www.christurnbullwx.x10host.com, but that did not work. I still get the apache is working normally. Refreshing says failed to open page and then refreshing again after that goes back to the apache is working normally.
  3. christurnbullwx.x10host.com is still working normally after I manually changed the wordpress/site address settings back to the x10host.com domain. That's why the links are greyed out in the settings in the attached screenshot.
Here is my configuration:

There was a suggestion to turn the Proxied DNS to DNS Only for both the Type A and Type CNE records to see if that would work. That only resulted in the following. This is when I have my wordpress site address set to the https://www.christurnbullwx.com domain and not the x10host.com domain.

Hello,

If you want to add your purchased domain to your free hosting account you need to add the domain to your directadmin account under account manager > domain setup > add new. Enter your new domain you purchased here.

You do not want to point your domain itself to the new one you want to point your hosting to the domain I believe.

Once that is completed you will make sure the nameservers at cloudflare for the domain itself point to ns1.x10hosting.com & ns2.x10hosting.com.

Then you should see your domain active within your hosting account. Once you have that set I believe you may then adjust the dns settings for the new domain via your direct admin to utilize cloud flares features,

I personally have limited experience with cloud flare currently, but I believe this should get you on the correct track.

I added the christurnbullwx.com domain to the x10host domain setup and added the cloudflare name servers to it. The cloudflare dashboard has the Type A records along with the x10host name servers. And I changed the wordpress config file to set the wordpress address to https://www.christurnbullwx.com. Unfortunately, this is still not working.

Going to http://www.christurnbullwx.com gives me: "Apache is functioning normally"
Going to https://christurnbullwx.com results in a timeout
Going to https://www.christurnbullwx.com or https://www.christurnbullwx.x10host.com results in a 403 Forbidden page.

If you do not have a valid SSL for your domain it may not resolve to any HTTPS://

Can you try to delete the duplicate NS DNS records from your DNS as your screenshot shows you have both cloudflare nameservers and x10hostings.

Are you using your normal shared IP for your A record? This should be 198.91.81.14

I also noticed you had your main domain marked as suspended. I unsuspended this via your DA.

I deleted the duplicate records. Yes it is the 198.91.81.14. I added an origin certificate into the SSL Certificates section on x10host. Still no luck.

I solved it. I needed to delete the default index.html webpage that was created with the new domain. Everything appears to be working as it should now. Thanks for your help getting this to work. Only question now is how to redirect people if they type in www.christurnbullwx.com instead of https://christurnbullwx.com. Typing it without the https:// leads to the "apache is functioning normally."

EDIT: I got the message to disappear by using a force redirect to christurnbullwx.com in the x10host domain setup, checking the force ssl with https redirect option in the ssl certificate page in x10host (not sure if that was necessary), and enabling the always use https option on the CloudFlare dashboard

Glad to hear we resolved it by providing the proper A record for the actual loading of the domain and you updating the index file to your actual website.

As always let us know if you need anything else!

p/s our community helper @hamradi2 I believe also runs some weather websites!
