Sirs,

In the cPanel there is a database utility labeled 'Remote MySQL'. The page it links to suggests that a programmer can connect to the locally (x10) hosted MySQL databases, as per the quote:

"You can allow external web servers to access your MySQL databases".

I have spent several days trawling the x10 forums and making desperate attempts to guess the configurations required to enable and successfully connect to my x10 MySQL database from my home (gentoo) linux system.

In my investigations I have come across this post:
http://forums.x10hosting.com/free-hosting/58861-remote-access-mysql-database.html

The response to the above thread details that external connections for x10 databases is not enabled for security reasons (original post dated April 2008).

Please can you confirm that this is still the case as otherwise the cPanel configuration is very miss-leading.

If, however, times have changed and we have all become a trustworthy bunch of jolly folk, please can spare a moment to tell me what host/port the x10 MySQL server resides on that allows such external connections.

Warms regards and thank you for your assistance.

We don't allow remote MySQL connections.
The Remote MySQL page is a part of cPanel and I don't think it can be removed.
