I just registered with x10hosting to host a website I just finished. I've never used Cpanel before and it's really frustrating.

Every other host I used, I just had to upload my index.html, other .html files, and my image folder and my website was then viewable.

With the Cpanel, I click the File Manager and notice there are already tons of folder and files with weird names.

My problem is, I cannot figure out where to place my index.html file and image folder. So far everywhere I've uploaded it to, it doesn't work. I always just get the default page when I try to view my website.

It's so confusing. There's a public_Html folder, a WWW folder, and Public_ftp folder, and inside those folders there's some named "_vti_" and I have no idea what these are all for.

hi there,

you need to upload to public_html, www is a link to the same directory i think

i hope this helped you out a little ;-), good luck

make sure you overwrite or delete the original index.html that is allready there

Thanks, now I know for sure it goes in the Public_html folder.

I found the problem though just now. When I go to http://jeffderose.exofire.net/ it takes me to that default page. It makes me go to http://jeffderose.exofire.net/index.html to go to my actual home page.

How can I change it so that my home page is http://jeffderose.exofire.net/ without the /index.html needed at the end?

- Happy to see this forum is active. I ditched my old host because the latest post on their forum was dated 2007

i m not sure what you mean, it does not matter what you type, both adresses (index.html at the end or not) will take you to the same page because index.html is the default

Yes, normally, that's why I'm so confused.

If you click my two links above you'll see what I mean. http://jeffderose.exofire.net/ takes me to a cpanel placeholder where http://jeffderose.exofire.net/index.html takes me to my actual home page. I'm trying to somehow make http://jeffderose.exofire.net/ not show that placeholder but my home page instead.
