cPanel login

When I login I am redirected to a page that tells me I need to link my cPanel account with my forum account. The instructions are simple: enter your cPanel username. However, it does not seem to recognize my username and I know I'm not getting it wrong. If it helps, I received an email confirmation for my registering on the forums but never did after registering for hosting.
Edit: Found a relevant post and it appears that I'm not alone on this issue. The only suggestion that I have not tried is waiting...

Your cPanel account is already linked. Where and with what username are you trying to login?

I think time is the issue here. It no longer asks me to link my accounts, but now the problem is that I can't login at cpanel, so I assume I just need to wait.
