Creating a New MySQL Database Issues

Today, I was trying to create a new database and user from Cpanel in order to install a PhpBB forum. I created the database, new user, granted all privileges, however the PhpBB installation script kept saying "Access denied for user @localhost." I decided to use a previously created database and user and it worked fine. I would like to set up a new database for my forum.
