Disk Quota exceeded

I can no longer transfer files via FTP or create new folders and files. On Filezilla is says "Critical file transfer error" and in cPanel I get a popup saying the disk quota is exceeded.

I have no idea if this is related, but I'm also getting a general error "Could not get style data" on two of my other boards that is under the same general domain name (http://area51.chenschool.elementfx.com/ and http://chenschool.elementfx.com/ascraeus/index.php). I reckon it's actually a phpBB error but what doesn't make sense is that I did not touch the active style my board is using. I didn't do ANYTHING. I had it on my main board too, but after manually deleting the cache files in the /cache folder (except .htaccess and index.htm) I get this error: Fatal: Not able to open ./cache/data_global.php

x10hosting is now enforcing - a hard limit for the number of files a free-hosting account can store - which is 50,000 files or inodes (think folders + files + Email + other types)

old Emails have been one issue with this limit...

Okay but it still makes no sense that all of the sudden I can't access my sites in the afternoon when before then I could access them fine - because I'm pretty sure the limit hasn't JUST been enforced - hasn't it been there for a while now? Even if it's not a long time?

What am I supposed to do now??

The disk quota thing isn't about the amount of space you're using, but the number of inodes (roughly, files and directories, which includes emails, logs and so forth). There is a hard upper limit of 50,000 inodes per account on the Free Hosting servers, no matter what plan you're on or whether it's metered or unmetered. That's a relatively recent change (it rolled out with the new servers, Apache instead of LiteSpeed, and the Varnish cache). It's not an "enforcement" thing; it's a "server resource allocation and backup management" thing, since even the tiniest of inode entries (say for a zero-byte file) takes up a minimum amount of space — 1000 1 byte files take up much, much more room and resources than 1 1kb file.

How do I tell how many "inodes" I have? I find it hard to believe I already reached my limit of 50,000...

One way to check is by switching your control panels theme to paper_lantern and you'll be able to see inode stats on the left hand menu.

For whatever reason, we're not able to see this with the basic theme.

I get a 500 Internal server error trying to switch themes :/

If your site has been running crons that notify of their runtime status, it's easy to hit 50K (it takes almost a year for a job that runs every ten minutes, and if you don't know it's happening, you'd never notice until your account suddenly runs out of room). As it is, it's going to take somebody with admin access to the server to free things up for you; cPanel is pretty much borked when you exceed quota.

You have 60.9k in public_html; here's some further in-depth breakdowns:

In the last one, the . just means there's 8 files in public_html.

For the phpBB3 install, there's about 19.5k in the store subfolder, which is where the majority of the account's usage is (if we're looking for single folders at least).

This seems to be false on the xo2 server (no inode counter and no CPanel theme changer), and I'm on the x10x3 theme by default in CPanel.

I honestly don't know. I'm wondering the same thing (though I personally won't need it).

Right. You only said that most users don't have the paper_lantern theme.
