In my opinion I don't think floppies will die because for PC you can boot DOS with it and do a lot of stuff. What are your opinions.

For the most part, I thought it was pretty much dead already. Rarely do you see one anymore (drive or disc) on any system. PCs can boot an OS from a USB drive and a CD / DVD.

I think floppy will be gone on somedays. Because as days passby there is a new technology invented espeacially on computers, cellphones, etc.

So i think floppy disk will be a part of the history of computer.

The 1.44 MB floppy as we know it will be extinct, yes. However the concept of inserting a disk like device into your 3.5" bay will still go on; the -clunk- sound it makes is pretty satisfying!

It is inevitable, if it hasn't die completely now, it'll die eventrully. Most of the newer prebuilt computers don't come with them. Hehe only one out of the four computers in my house, only one of them has a floppy drive and one other has an external one (no idea why we have it..) The one with the floppy is like.. ancient.. and the others are newer.

The floopy will die eventually, because all dos programs are coming in cd's and also all programs such as MaxBlast( A HD dos program use to come only on floopy) this program is a dos program and is no on cd because its getting to big for Floopies. The floopy will die because all programs will become to big for a floopy. Well leave it a few more years, say 2years and it will propably gone out of fashion.

I still use a Floopy but thats because its the same colour of my pc so i fitted it.

Floppies are already nearly dead...

4 months ago I destroyed all foppies I had because they were useless.

I dont think I have anything that will be less than 1.44 mb.

And as far a booting DOS...who uses that?? Especially with Vista :p

And trust me, CDs will soon die...All that will be left will be Flash Drive, Portable Hard Disks, DVDs, Blu-Rays, HDDVDs...

700 mb CDs will become too small for programs...And anything that CAN fit in a CD will be put in Flash drives as it is faster and easier to transfer rather than having to write a CD.

Also to add to my 2cents worth, you can boot dos programs through a usb and you can boot into dos using a USB as well so really Floopies are a waste of time now, *starts to think about removing my own drive to get rid of the last long wire :D*
Good new devices such as USB Sticks and CD's even DVD's can do what a floopy does. And you get more storage space on these newer products!

With USB drives being so cheap nowadays, they have replaced floppies. Computer manufacturers don't even put them in anymore.

The floppy is already dead lol, my PC doesn't have one (self built though) and my partner (who bought hers a few months ago) doesn't have one either.

There is no need for floppies now, there are bootable CD/DVD Roms and flash drives etc, it has gone the way of Betamax and VHS lol.

It's going to have to die anyways, but it's going to take a while, especially if those 6th graders in schools don't use flash drives yet...

If you think floppies are going to die out your wrong. Lots of times CD Wont cut it because the server software doesn't like the manager and doesn't want to write data to a disk therefore floppies are more convenient in those cases though it takes tons more to fit something like 800mb file on floppies. May take a lot but when CD's are not writing and such its often worth it :p

I think Floppy drives have gone, haven't they? I don't have a Floppy Drive anymore. That speaks for itself.

Floppy drives are nearly dead, not quite in my opinion.

Most new motherboards do not even support them, I had to search a bit to find a good mobo with floppy connector for my most recent PC (2 months ago).

I still needed it for some software licence which is on floppy only but I created an image of it to use with my other PCs without floppy drive.

The Floppy Disk is dead.

Compared to the new technology of today like USB Drives, DVDs, and now, Blue-Ray Discs...the floppy does not stand up.

Given it's unreliable nature and small storage capacity, it can be deemed to be useless with all of today's applications.

I'm sure there are plenty of people who have put data onto a floppy disk only to transport it and find out that the data is corrupted or the message: "This disk is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?"

floppy will surely be extinct in the years to come..
i haven't used one since almost 5 years ago..
but still it will be much used in dos or in updating your bios - till they make new technology that will never use floppy disks again
