Decompiling SWFs that you don't own is illegal. It's piracy, whichever way you look at it.

This sounds incredibly like it needs closing to be honest, I highly doubt this is for the right reasons.

I agree with tnl2k7, its illegal, even if you are just changing the width and height of the program. If adobe finds out you're modifying their program, it could mean trouble.

Yeah you can easily download a free trial of one of these programs just for that file then you can simply delete it ;).

Why don't you create your own version of FlashDVD.swf? Apparently you have Flash so make your own instead of stealing someone else's work illegally.

I'm amazed at the amount of people who think it's okay to spread misinformation like this.

Piracy (in the technology-related sense) is illegal filesharing (downloading or uploading material you don't have the right to download or upload).

I've downloaded the file in question and it seems to be a Flash movie player. As long as he didn't download this illegally, it is not piracy. In addition, modifying it is not piracy and it is not illegal. The most it could be a violation of the program's license agreement. There isn't a law saying you cannot decompile a SWF.

You can only steal items that are tangible. If this file is illegal to be shared, then it's simply copyright infringement.

If you're a gamer, think of it this way: The game's license agreement says you can't cheat, but when people cheat they aren't breaking the law, only the license agreement.

There is no law against cheating in a game but there is a law against copyright infringement.

Decompiling an application is against the law. If you didn't write it, you have no right to view its source. Sorry, but I really don't like the way this is going. This is not a discussion I'd want to be involved in, so this is the last time I'm posting in it. This thread should be closed.

First, the decompilers dont give you the actionscript with the free trial, ive tried

Also, i am just trying to decompile a file that comes with a program that i purchased to add full screen functionality, something it should have come with so i can use the file the same way the licence says i can use the old file.

Adobe Flash comes with swfs and flvs for its video players, why doesnt encore?
Edit:
hey, how bout this, i think i may have found a way around decompiling it. I found out how to embed FlashDVD.swf in another flash document, but how do i put full screen button in that and make the video scale with it?

Well according to this page, FlashDVD.swf is apparently just part of general output when exporting from Encore to Flash. So if all he wants to do is add more functionality to what Adobe is giving him, I don't think it's illegal.

Anyway, I have no idea about adding a full screen function into the document as I've only worked with Flash maybe twice, but perhaps this will help you:

http://www.monkeyflash.com/flash/full-screen-video/

If not, I would suggest asking that in a new topic as this one has been somewhat ravaged by accusations of illegal content.

Why don't you contact Adobe and ask for the FLA of FlashDVD.swf?
Give them your credentials and proof that you bought their software and I'm sure they'll consider giving it out.

I don't like the legality issues of this at all, so I'm closing it. Adobe copyrights everything they write, the source is a trade secret. I'm closing this now because I've been promoted and have the permission to do so.
