I am using FP 2003 for my site. In order to create a registration web, I need to create a subweb and then use unique permissions for this sub web which are different from those of the parent web. So, I create the subweb and then close the site on frontpage. I then log onto the site live on the server and click Tools>Server>Permissions. In all the help sites I have read, a Frontpage Permissions dialogue box is meant to appear but instead I get taken to the FPSE 2002 admin pages on my browser. Then, I grant the subweb unique permissions through these FPSE admin pages, but I am not able to find the "Only Registered Users have Browse access" option anywhere. So my question: does x10hosting.com not support user self-registration for security purposes or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks in advance

X10 is on a Linux based server, not a Windows server, so there may be some differences from your home computer. As far as I know, all the features are supported. You might just have to dig around for this option.

No, I have tramped through the entire admin site and have even used the inbuilt help but to no avail. This "Only registered users have browse access" option is not to be found anywhere. The Frontpage permissions dialogue box does not appear but instead I get taken to the site. This could be the problem. But then again, I did read that many servers disable the self-registration feature due to security problems that it causes. Would it be possible to find out if this feature has been disabled. Also, I would not be able to set this setting if the account was hosted on a FAT partition, but only if it hosted on an NTFS partition. So, what exactly is the problem I just don't know.

But anyway, I'll have another dig through

Thanks a lot

The sites hosted on a linux box, which is radically different from windows. It probably uses ext3, not fat or ntfs. The best thing you can do is keep looking, or find a webhost that uses Windows instead of linux.
