Hi X10 team,

We are trying to get a new site for our non-profit charity but are experiencing some routing issues, please read on.

When connecting to the site using a specific major Internet Service Provider (ISP) provider we get great response times and site is always up.

However some people is having no access at all when logging from specific wifi hotspots (i.e. Starbucks) even from another major ISP here in Canada.

Is there any filtering happening on the x10 side perhaps? Do you know anything that can be done as a workaround to make it work (e.g. use
xo2.x10hosting.com/specific URL as an alternate) or even know if an own domain (www.mydomainname.com) would help workaround this?

Just had someone test using ping from the non working ISP and the DNS resolves to the correct IP (198.91.81.4) but the page wont open.

Could it be something blocking it on the x10 end or perhaps a spam/blacklist filter?

We were about to go live with our site but this will definitely stop our development completely if it cannot be accessed from everywhere.

Hope you have some suggestions on what to try or how to workaround it.

Thanks and great work with the free hosting guys!
Carlos H.

their connection could be blocked by x10hosting's server(s) because they are connecting from a suspicious (to x10hosting) IP address - which could be caused by privacy software or settings that they may have installed on their computer/network - AND/OR x10hosting's server(s) blocked their connection due to the IP address - that they were trying to connect with - is listed on one or more of x10hosting's "third-party blacklists"

Good call, thanks for your reply @bdistler . However I tried using my cell phone first at my office, it worked. Then went downstairs (same day and hour) to a Starbucks, connected to their wifi, and it does not work there. Any way to figure out the blacklist for x10 perhaps?

how to test if your IP address might be on a x10hosting's blacklist

get your current IP address at --> [ http://www.whatismyipaddress.com/ ]

then test it at --> [ http://www.stopforumspam.com/search ]

and [ https://www.abuseipdb.com/ ]

and [ http://www.blocklist.de/en/index.html ]

and [ http://whatismyipaddress.com/blacklist-check ]

and your connection could be blocked by x10hosting's server(s) because you are connecting from a suspicious (to x10hosting) IP address...

Thanks for that. The IP for the non working ISP does not show in any of the blacklists at all. Wondering if having a Premium website would make this work or at least have x10 look at it on their end/filters via a support ticket.

Starbucks (and other coffee-shop-type WiFi providers) do their own pretty aggressive filtering, both to limit bandwidth abuse and to prevent one customer from offending others. (Second Cup tends to be worse, BTW.) Having your own domain may help, but only if they're filtering on x10Hosting domain strings and not on IP addresses.

Thanks for the reply @essellar will try going premium to get a domain, and if still does not work maybe get a refund.
