Let's hear about your earliest memories of the outside world, something outside of your friends, family, and immediate neighboorhood that had a big effect on you.

For me, I guess it was watching the 1968 California Democratic Convention on tv with my Mum, when Robert Kennedy was shot and killed. As a child I was floored. Why would they do that to a man like Kennedy?

The first really "biggy" event for me was the Apollo 11 moon landings.

Need I say more?!

For me it was seeing the Montreal Olympics in 1976 on TV.

Hmm... All 3 posts here so far refer to TV "moments"...

Well, that's a good point, except I'm not sure how else a kid is going to hear about something big in the outside world. Newspaper I guess.

My first memory of war was another biggie. The 1967 7-day war between Israel and Egypt, though it didn't have the same impact as watching Kennedy speak then hearing he was shot.
