I've tried sending an email from my gmail account to an email account on my account hosted here and I didn't receive it. I also tried to send an email to the same account via the mail() php function and didn't receive it either, even though the function didn't generate any errors. Please help, as email is very important to the functioning of my site!

No error was returned to the Gmail. It's acting as though the email has been successfully sent and received but the email doesn't show up on my hosting account through Horde or through my Thunderbird client configured to download messages from the server.

Ok, so the email still hasn't been delivered to the server nor have I got a returned email to Gmail.
I ran a quick mail() function call to send an email to the gmail from the server and that worked just fine, so there is something specifically wrong with the mail server.
