Hello,

I signed up for and set up my account Jul-2. I set new nameservers for my domain, and they are now pointing correctly. However, I cannot send nor receive email through my account. When I log into cPanel, no messages are reveived, and I get the SMTP port 25 error when I try to send.

The support ticket page is virtually useless as it will not accept any login information.

How do I get resolution to this issue?

You changed your domain name, I'm guessing, but did you change your MX entries as well?

Support ticket system uses your forum login. If you can't get it to work, I will submit a ticket for you.

Thanks for the response, garrettroyce. I am able to get into the ticket system now.

As for the MX record, what is it supposed to be set to? I changed the DNS records with my registrar, but there is no option there to edit MX records. When I log into cPanel, I see the MX record entry screen says that my domain has a matching MX record with priority 0. The only other option is to change the Always Accept from No to Yes.

Is this what is required to complete email functionality?

It should be good as is.

There were a good number of users with this sort of mystery mail problem. I haven't found a solution for it yet. I usually recommend changing your mail to another host, like Google Apps.

It really shouldn't be a big mystery if it is happening to that many people. The solution should be identifiable.

The email component to the hosting is kinda important, so if that is going to be unreliable and/or not functional, then my stay here may be a short one.

As for Google Apps, email is insecure enough in many respects, I'm not about to be running copies of mine through Google for archiving.......

I'm sure it's not a mystery. You can submit a ticket and wait for the staff to work it out. If anything, Google is as secure, with more features. It's really an upgrade.

I guess I don't understand how gmail is any less secure than X10's mail.

I have also been suffering from email not working since sunday evening.

It was working initially as i sent several test emails which all worked and i can see them when I log into webmail, but I have sent several emails since then including this morning and nothing is arriving in my inbox.

I've also just tried sending from webmail and recieved the following error;

"
error.png
There was an error sending your message: Failed to connect to localhost:25 [SMTP: Failed to connect socket: Connection refused (code: -1, response: )
"
I'm not sure how much use any of that information is!

I appreciate this is a free hosting service and as such am very grateful for all the time and effort put into maintaining and supporting the system, that said Email is pretty important to my hosting package. I hope you can manage to sort this problem soon.

Does anyone know if this problem is present in the paid hosting soloutions?

Thanks again for your efforts.

According to this site: http://x10staff.co.cc/status/ (which, as far as I understand, can't be viewed as a reliable source) SMTP on Lotus and Stoli servers is down...

Yes, & (assuming the status page is correct, which it might not be because it apparently isn't 100% accurate) then, what is disappointing is that even though it has been like this for at least a few days now, there has been no official announcement in the Server Alerts or News section.

ok, so the server may or may not be down, and may or may not have been down for 2 or more days now?

Is this a common occurrence? Can I expect to NOT have email service for extended periods here at x10hosting? Because, as I mentioned before, email is kinda important.

Let me know your experiences please.

If your email continues to not work, it should be looked at by a staff member who can actually help you. No one here has access to your account or the server configuration that is required to fix your issue. We can only recommend a course of action.

My recommended course of action is still to change to Google Apps. If you were to change your account to Gmail, it would never be down (how many times have you seen google offline?) Downtime will happen on X10, probably about 5% of the time, as it will on any free host worth being on.

Stop Press :

Google are clearly listening to garrettroyce.

In a gesture obviously intended to validate his praise of their services, Google have today finally removed the "beta" title from their Apps.

Since Gmail has only been available & running in "Beta" for a mere 5 years now, I'm wondering if their decision wasn't a little hasty! ;)
