Okay, the idea of this discussion is simple enough. We're talking about secular holidays. Christmas. Hanukkah. Kwanzaa. Yule, even! Christmas, mostly though, since it's come under the gun the heaviest... These days, you can get in trouble (get dirty looks, at the very least) if you say, "Merry Christmas!" Everyone insists that it be "Happy Holidays!" Santa seems to be for everyone, now too. "Ho, ho ho! Happy Holidays!" Also, be careful where you put your secular holiday decorations... it's fair game as long as it's generic, but don't put the baby Jesus anywhere near a government building or people will be up in arms.

Should the Holidays be just about having a holiday, or should they stay true to their religious significance?

Well, I've gotta say that these holidays are for the individual to decide. I love Christmas and will say Merry Christmas (not "Happy Holidays") when I want. There are too many "special interest" groups in this country wanting to ban religion and stop you from saying things like "Merry Christmas". I have as much right to say it as they have to not say it. You live your life and I'll live mine. You don't like people saying Merry Christmas, don't listen. You don't like the decorations in the store, don't shop there. You don't own the store so you don't get a vote The biggest problem now is that every individual thinks that the rest of the world should bend to their beliefs just for them.

I put out a lot of lights and decorations at Christmas because there are still people out there who, like me, enjoy seeing them. I used to take my kids out driving all over town just to see all the lights. There are still people who do that. And as for what decorations I will put out, if I want to put out a baby Jesus I will. It's my yard. If the government wants to do it by city hall then so be it. That's not my yard. I've got more important things in life to worry about than what statue is lit up by city hall.

I don't think a baby Jesus statue by city hall is the start of "The Inquisition" like many people do. To be honest, I don't think they feel that way either. It's just another scam to make them look important. What better way is there to get your name in the papers than to attack religion or holidays?

Just my $.02 and even that ain't worth much anymore.

Well I don't think this time is for anything else than to be with your family... i cannot believe how the holidays have become just about commercialism, even though, i don't like my family too much, i rather to be with them.
