The FTP address can be either your server's IP address or your site domain name. You shouldn't need ftp. at the beginning of that.

Ah, good call. I think the important part is to use http:// at the beginning

I spent fifteen minutes on the phone with tech support at work because my client was very picky about this issue as well.

he means don't add ftp like ftp.mydomain.x10hosting.com

you shouldn't add ftp:// or http:// unless your using a browser

What information are you using to login?

FireFTP requires you to type http:// if it is needed. I'm not sure about filezilla, but it can't hurt to specify the correct protocol :)

Thanks for all of your responses. I have also tried it without the ftp in front.

host- yoursite.x10hosting.com
login- ftp username that I setup in cpanel
password- ftp pass I setup in cpanel
Port - 21 for ftp but I don't enter it

I click quick connect and then it says its connected but then it says: User XXX OK. Pass word required
Response: 530 Login authentication failed
Error: Critical error
Error: Could not connect to server

Any other suggestions?

try it with your CPanel login information as your user name and password.

I'd also explicitly put http://yoursite.com and port 21, just in case the defaults are something weird. They won't hurt you because they're correct in this situation.

You can see the link http://yoursite.com:21 works as well as http://ftp.yoursite.com:21 both work if you type them in your browser (Mozilla warns you that it doesn't understand the page content) when ftp://yoursite.com:21 is a blank page.

It works for me. I also used the cPanel login/password rather than a special one I set up. Note I didn't specify the port, ftp assume 21 by default.

This is a normal failure. What it means when it says User OK is that it got the user name, not that it was validated or anything.

The User OK says that the username is valid (not necessarily registered, check that there are no typos).
The 530 specifies that the password is incorrect (actually, that the specified password is not the same one as the server's one), check that the one you entered is correct.
