error retrieving your account's hosting type from the backend system-help! site down!

my site was working fine yesterday but now its down and when i login i get the error message "Although you've logged in successfully, there was an error retrieving your account's hosting type from the backend system."

i can still ftp in and see my files and use cpanel but my site is down despite everything looking normal. i'd love any help possible.
