Hi guys,

I know and accept that us users of the (normally excellent) free hosting service as provided by yourselfs are the lowest priority for technical support issues. However we still have feelings and it would be nice if somebody higher up the support chain could take a minute to explain to us mere minor users what the heck is going on with ftp access rather than punting a stock copy & paste answer.

I don't think that anybody considers free hosting support requests "low priority". But at x10Hosting free hosting support is non traditional in that it is community based support. However, members of staff and even the owner monitor and frequently respond to issues in free hosting support.
This Thread, regarding FTP on Stoli, (your server), was posted just a few minutes ago by Corey. If you are still having issues with FTP on Stoli you can reply in that thread and will likely get an answer directly from the owner / CEO.
