It looks like Long was right. Nick White announced the retail packaging for Windows Vista & Office 2007 on the Windows Vista Weblog today. I thought i'd take the liberty of assembing them all for you, and making them easier to see side-by-side. Click on the original for a bigger version.

Apparently, people who use Office Professional work in much cooler buildings than the people that use Office Home & Student.

Personally, I think it's really cool. I'm sure retailers will figure out how to encase that sexy packaging in something horrid so it won't be stolen, but maybe Microsoft has that figured out already too.

The box for Vista Ultimate better look sexier than that though. Maybe they could add holographic flames... or how about a built in SideShow display that lets you calculate how much Microsoft will screw you for every additional PC you have in your house. Now THAT would be cool.

According to News.com , Steve Ballmer will ring in availablility of Windows Vista, Office 2007, and Exchange 2007 at the New York Stock Exchange on November 30th. Microsoft sez: Launching together for the first time in 10 years, these releases will invigorate the IT industry, while enabling businesses to fully utilize their greatest resource: their people. Hopefully the beta testers will have access to it before then. So if Microsoft launches Vista for Businesses in New York, what are the odds that they'll announce consumer availability in New York in January too?

i've heard that Windows Vista Home Basic is gonna cost like $100, so there's no telling how much the other one's cost, but i can guarantee it won't be cheap :(

They're basically geared to the type of customer.

Vista home basic is like the home essentials. It lacks some fancy features like the Aero interface and is really for a basic home user. It also lacks some things like remote desktop and stuff.

Home Premium is for a more advanced home user, still lacks some features but has the fancy aero interface.

Business, is suited for business applications, multi-user systems etc

and Ultimate has everything from all of the versions.

I want ultimate :)

btw, liking those packages. I could proudly display that next to my pc.

Cool??? Better the XP???(well thats not hard :fawkdance ) Gonna buy it on day ONE?!?!?!? Have any of you actualy used Vista????? Sure its GUI is Great. It look nice and flashy but its useabilaty is just above ZERO!!! it doesn't have many drivers yet AND it'll only run on a machine with 1g of memory (i know they say it'll run on less but iv tried it and its so slow u can barely work with it) It is true it has a lot of nice cosmetic features and Office 12 works great with it. I will wait till they hit SP 2 or later till ill even consider installing it on a NonBeta machine. To answer the Question about upgrading it from one version to another you wont be able to install it on two machines that way as to upgrade all you do is get a upgrade key and do a upgrade install from the DVD you have (all distros are on the disk. its the key/activation that tells which one gets installed). there even talking about having Vista with office perinstalled on certian machines which you can then choose to install strait from the harddrive without a cd/DVD.

It's ridiculous that they have the different versions. I'll borrow ultimate from a friend and overwrite the activation script.

Wow! The packaging sure does look fancy, but I hope I'm not paying $50 extra through the cost of Vista just to weigh down the pockets of the designers of the packaging.
Hopefully when Vista comes out it will have drivers for my ethernet and sound card, when I installed the RC1 Beta, it didn't come with any drivers for those devices.

I ran the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor and everything pretty much checked out fine except for my Ethernet adapter and I don't have enough space on my hard drives. The hard drive space is easy to fix because I could either get rid of stuff I don't use anymore or just get bigger hard drives.

Ok, overwrite wasn't the best choice of wording. I'll use a method to get around it. Just wait a month or so, and something will surface to avoid the activation.
