FORUM CONVERSATION 101
Hey and welcome to FC 101.
For those of you new to internet posting, allow me to be your guide through the strange world of forums. I will take apart some common jargons and other statements made in everyday posting.
Lesson One: The parts of speech
All normal parts of speech apply in a formal post, but not in a regular old post.
When writing a formal post, one addresses the crowd with the up-most wisdom and kindness. Spelling is mucho importante (very important) and the font should be 2.
In an unformal post, nobody really gives a crap if you spell dog with
one "g" or two.
Post Example 1:
That is pwns
Here, the subject is "that" a demonstrative pronoun addressing the post before, or no post at all, for that matter. "Is" is the predicate state-of-being verb. "pwns" is the adjective. In forums, an adjective can follow a noun without hessitation. For example, That is teh coolness is perfectly acceptable.
Post Example 2:
I am l33t!!!!111!!1!1!
In this example, you see a perfectly well constructed sentence. I is the noun, am is the state of being verb, and l33t is the adjective describing I.
Yes, it is possible to substitute e's for 3's sometimes. The word l33t is possibly a lost root for "elite", though it's origin is quite unknown. And notice the unique spacing of the exclamation points with 1's. Pwn means to be good at, to pwn at soccer, or to kick the living crap out of, I will pwn you. Or, you can make up your pwn definition for pwn. Hey, there's one there. That is how pwn is pronounced. OWN. or to POWN. or in strange cases, to pawn, as in the chess piece. Uh, moving on...
Post Example 3:
Yea thas teh r0x00rs!!!111!!
Now we have a strange situation. Let me decode this as best as I can.
Yea = Yeah. thas = that is. teh = another form of "the".
r0x00rs = rox. or rocks. Means the same as rocks. That rox00rs!
Lesson Two: Conversation
Now that you know the anatomy of a forum sentence, let's put it to use.
When someone says,
Did u c dat wierd blob on teh st33t yes terf da?
What do you respond with?
a) Yeah that was very tight.
b) yeah that pwned
c) What are you talking about, sir?
The correct answer is B. The past tense form of pwn is "pwned".
Therefore, without further delay, making up your pwn imagination of the subject at hand, you would reply with "yeah that pwned"
Oh, and to those of you who are taking me seriously up to this point...
I laugh T\/\/is3.
Hopefully you're smarter than that. Please disregard this post.
It is merely a glimpe into the strange world that is a forum.
