Does anyone know any free 3D MMORPG's that are either browser-based or work on Macs (besides RuneScape)? Here's the no-no list:

  • RuneScape*
  • Sherwood Dungeon*
  • Oberin
  • Text-Based
  • MapleStory
I've been looking for some time now, and i haven't found anything.

*I know about it and it's a fun game

Add MapleStory to the no-no list. It's a browser based game, you need IE, however it still won't run on a mac :\

[Edit]:

Also, I just found a Mac-Only MMORPG called Oberin. You might want to check that out. The screen shots look pretty plain tho... it lacks beautiful graphics... Kind of a shame..

Why not play downloadable games? That actually have good graphics?

Because all of the downloadable games are exe's which don't run on Macs.

Oberin is also on the no-no list!

World of Warcraft is available on Mac. It's not necessarily "free" but I'm pretty sure there's a mac program out that can take advantage of the free servers. Just search for a tutorial on it.

Honestly, if you're interested in gaming, I suggest you invest $500 in a decent PC rig (if you build it yourself, that's plenty of money for something formidable). It's hard enough to find a good free MMORPG, much less a good free Mac supporting MMORPG.

There's Tales of Magic which is acceptable. (Note: It's TEXT BASED so avoid it if you need awesome graphics)

You could check OnRPG.com for a list of MMOs and other RPGs as well. Here's another link at Mac Games with the P2P/F2P divided up. Looking at it I'd put Shadowbane on the no-no list for sure.

This solution will cost you money, but it'll probably be the best one if you want to play games on a mac.

VMWare has a program called VMWare Fusion (link). It costs $79.99 (USD), but it's worth it. It runs Windows as a virtual machine on your computer, so you can run Mac and Windows clients side-by-side. This is even better than partitioning your hard drive with a Windows install.

I know paying for something like this isn't what you're probably interested in, but it lets you run almost any Windows application, so you'll be able to play all the games the rest of us can.

Off topic, but... why do you want to use a Mac over a Windows machine?
