The x10 "Free Webhosting" sign up page at http://x10hosting.com/freehosting.php mentions ASP.NET support in the free package.

I went through the signup process, and I see I am on a linux server with an apache web host, and with the exception of frontpage extensions I see nothing about Windows or .NET support.

Could someone direct me to info (url/document, etc) that might help me to understand how to publish .net apps to my free host to evaluate its ability to support .net?

Also, are my only choices for DB backend support MySql and Postgre?

Did I miss something (like a free-package signup process specific to Windows using IIS webservers supporting asp/asp.net and MS SQL Server databases?)

Thanks for any help/info,

-AHD

There are no IIS servers on X10, unless you sign up for the paid VPS service. Mysql and Postgre are the only two databases.

ASP.NET up to 2.0 is supported automatically, as far as I can tell. I've created a "hello world" app, uploaded it to public_html and it worked without any modifications. Since ASP.NET is supported through third party libraries, there are some limitations and you may encounter problems that you will not on a Windows server.

Thanks Garrettroyce for the concise and informative reply. X10 should post it on their signup pages so those interested in windows support are well-aware of the limitations upfront.

Again, much appreciated.

No problem :)

There is a lot of work happening at X10 right now, so some of these details are still being worked on. Enjoy your hosting account :)
