I just signed up on to free hosting to switch from paid and it seems to be very slow? is it usually that slow to get on to Cpanel? and I just found out there is no transfer of my files on to free available so I'd have to manually transfer everything over. I might just stay with paid than, any insights on how the free server is?

I've been on a free server ever since I joined x10Hosting. Beforehand, it was frustrating that I had a lot of down time, but recently, the down time has been reduced due to new server updates. It may be slow because administrators are stress-testing new servers and trying to find the optimum method of providing service to users. Obviously, the paid service is much better, but the free service isn't that bad either.

If you want to transfer your files, you can use the Backup feature in your cPanel. Make a backup of everything, download it, then upload and extract it into your new account.

I'm thinking about moving to the paid service as I've been finding the free very unreliable. I'm trying to back up my files but I don't have the nice little "backup" feature in my cPanel. Am I going crazy, or could it just be somewhere I may not be seeing it?

IfI do upgrade my account will I still be able to carry over the domain name I've purchased (just last week).

Any info would be very helpful

Everything carries over. You don't have to back up anything. Your account name and information stay the same. Just make sure you choose the option to copy your current information when you purchase the paid plan. You can come back later and create a new free account if you still want one.

Not sure if you still need to back up... but you could go into the file manager, go to your home directory, select public_html folder and click on "compress" on the top right menu. later you can "extract" the file under the home directory. haven't tested that out yet, but logistically it should work. :) and I guess for databases, back them up in phpmyadmin separately from the site.
