I'd like to suggest a program I have used for years, called Chess Assistant Light. It features the following...

A very good chess database system for saving and analyzing games.

The chess engine Crafty, a very strong opponent that will kick the butt of all but the best players. Other engines are included that play at various strengths.

A built in client for ICC.com (Internet Chess club) You can log in there and play for free and easily save your games.

A good system like this is a must for anyone who plays a lot of chess.

hmm I was almost ready to say "I stand corrected" but the free online one doesn't edit content. Still, I'm a little surprised by all of this, I thought pdf was proprietry. Maybe they pay a fee to Adobe for the right to market such a product.

You're right. It claims to allow editing of pages, but now I notice that the text editing abilities are only in the pro version (misleading page :thumbsdow ).

Formerly Adobe's proprietary format, PDF was officially released as an open standard in 2008. I tried out http://www.foxitsoftware.com/ some time ago, & was quite impressed with it. Again though, only the reader is free. But I'm sure that if loadsa googles for "free pdf editor" he should find something.

There are actually quite a few useful results, though from my quick glance through, a lot seem to be of the online utility variety. You can always install one of the pdf editor free trials.
