I keep attmpting to log into the ftp site to upload content and it states that my credentials are not valid.

server: ftp://ftp.myname.x10hosting.com
is the above format correct?

try it without the ftp:// part of the address. Just use ftp.myname.x10hosting.com

You can also use cossacks.x10hosting.com as your FTP HOST
