When using FTP I understand you have to place your files inside the public_html folder but this then stops all my site root relative links from working.

e.g /images/picture.png is now at /public_html/images/picture.png

Is there a way around this without having to change all the links because I need them the same for use with my testing server on my computer ?

thanks :happysad:

I dont think so, but public_html is root i believe? If not maybe someone else has a suggestion.

Doing such a thing shouldn't be messing up your relative paths nor your absolute paths on your pages at all. Anything in public_html (which on the server is /home/user/public_html) will have a relative path of /file.fileextension. In this case, uploading a file to the server path of home/user/public_html/images/picture.png, which in FTP is yoursitenamehere/public_html/images/picture.png, your relative path to a page directly in the public_html folder is simply /images/picture.png.

If you are having problems and this didn't clear the issue up, feel free to ask :).

Keep in mind, if your file is in another folder in the public_html folder, you want to do ../images/picture.png, adding more "../" paths at the beginning the deeper into the folders you go.
