I use both. FireFTP, a Firefox plugin, when I have to upload files or directories. I like the automated conversion from UNIX to DOS text files.
The FileManager is very handy, when I have to change (CHMOD) permissions for directories/files or rename directories/files.
FTP is easier and faster to upload/delete files. Therefore, I like using it to upload files.
I use FireFTP (FF extension). Good enough for me who doesn't need fancy functions in the FTP client.
But file manager is necessary if I'm on another computer without FTP application, so I'll have to use file manager.
i dont like file manager, it takes a lot of time to upload files, speciali when you need to upload for example a forum that you dont have in "fantastico". lots of files, its better to copy/paste =)

File manager's purpose is to upload a few less bulky files, like images etc. When i first came into the forum community, i first had PHPBB, and i uploaded every single file & folder via the file manager, it took ages!
No one told me i could upload them in 5minutes with a FTP Client :happysad:
FTP is more best than file manager, but i you have a good server and a java upload on your file manager then i would say/recomend that file manager is better. but for as long as in my own opinion there are only few server/s that offer good file manager that has a good java transfer system.
i like FTP when i'm uploading files but i use file manager if i want to edit the files i uploaded already so i don't have to keep uploading. to me they're both equal..
I like FTP better, it's easier and faster. Although a bad thing is if you're someone like me and constantly want to edit something in a file, sometimes it takes a while for the overwrite in FTP to actually show up on the web page, which really turns me off a lot of the time. But otherwise I would prefer FTP.
I really love the Cpanel 11 file manager, it's truly awesome. I use Net2Ftp installed on my account for uploading though, since it can download files directly from other servers without going through my computer - I use the upload tool and stick in the URL of the zip I want to install. Great stuff!
I pretty much always use IE's built in FTP manager. It is easier to just open 'My Network Places' and click on what I need and paste, then to log into cpanel, open the file management, and then upload.
FTP hands down, it is one of the easiest things to use to manage all of the files on your sites. Al ot of programs can be integrated right into your browser, for example FireFTP
FTP hands down, I try not to use file manager if at all possible. I use cuteftp and its like im browsing files on my computer, plus being able to drag and drop files onto and off the server.
