ftp uploading trouble

I am having trouble keeping a reliable connection when uploading files. I have the free hosting account and I have not been able to update files on my website yesterday or today. When I do get a connection it is extremely slow and eventually drops. I can browse to the website with my browser and it works fine, and I can browse directories with my ftp client, I just can't upload anything via ftp. Is anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions for a remedy?

I was using Fetch for OSX as my ftp client and also tried CyberDuck thinking it might be the software, but no luck. I have not had troubles uploading files to other sites.

Have you made sure you only use 1 connection at once (most FTP clients will try to download many files at once, but we only allow 1 at a time, otherwise the connection is closed and blocked for some time)?

do a ping to the server you are on to check if the connection is good:

ping servername.x10hosting.com
