For some reason when ever i try to install a news program, wether it be fusion news or cute news i keep getting this error message. I have followed the install manual for both types word for word and chmodded the folders and files as it says in the manuals but it still doesnt work

Check the permissions of the files.. For some reason, some files/folders when the permissions are set too high it gives a 500 error. Try lowering them a little bit.. There *should* be a point where the news script will still function, and the permissions will be low enough to let the script be opened in a browser without the 500 error.

Well here is a section of the install guide, i did exactly as it said

4. How to install:
==================

1. First open your ftp program, login to your account.

2. Now make a new folder, call it News or whatever
you want to call it.

3. CHMOD that folder to 777. (if you dont know how to chmod
please visit our faq system.) "http://www.fusionphp.net/faq/"

4. Upload ALL of the files that are located in the upload folder,
to the folder that you created.

5. Once all of the folders and files are uploaded, u can chmod all files and folders
to 777

Now run the installer. GOTO:

Follow the steps on the installer, and you can have fusion news
Running in no time :)

*NOTE: When you run the installer
Leave the path as ./ on the Path field, and that should work

6. Delete the installer.php file aswell as the db_convertor.php file for
security reasons.

Yep, the chmod'ing of the files to 777 is the problem. You need to lower them a little.. The server has something on it to stop very low file permissions. I have come across the same problem a number of times.

First try 776, then 766, then 666, then 664, then 644, etc etc.
