I really don't like how limiting game maker is. If you want a powerful tool, check out clickteam's Multimedia Fusion or its little brother The Games Factory. Theres Demos of both applications on their site. You can also register them for 'free' but I'm not suggesting you resort to piracy. *cough*

Extremely useful data from mattspec, Jim and gamez93. I will download all of these softwares. But mattspec you say its cheap, i do not want to spen on these softwares as there becomes a problem when there are limitation on what you can do with it. For example take gamemaker as Jim said it is limited. I find it very limited upto developing nice games.

Game Maker by Mark Overmars is a highly powerful tool when you include user made dlls and scripts / libraries. It has mafe many good 3d and 2d games like for instance God's Sand box was made with GM.

BTW i am a Registered gm6.1 User

Just learn a programming language, such as C/C++.. Any "game makers" that you "find", will most likely suck, and in the long run, learning a nice programming language could be fun. :-D

it could be =) but i think that C++ is a very hard language to MASTER and in order to make a "really good game" you gunna need someone who has mastered C++ like someone who went to collage for Computer Science or something...

I was in the search of gamemakers because i did not want to take the pains of making a game that needed programming!
hence i was looking for the easy way out.

most things are made in C++ these days, but you can make things in visual basic and stuff, it is just what programming language is most commonly used

Check out Devmaster.net. They've got lots of engines with links to their home pages and information on what languages and features they use.
