Garmin Map Updates Free?

Are US map updates for a Garmin Navigator free?
I searched the internet but couldn't find a solid answer.

You could always contact Garmin ... I have a Garmin GPS and the updates aren't free for me, but may be different for different products.

I've got a Garmin C340; I believe the updates are free but entire map packs aren't.. come to think about it, mine could use an update..

Updates are free, but these are updates to the voice, drivers, etc. No map packs.

I have a Garmin Ique M5 or something like that ... Got it free too. A friend sent it to me.
Still waiting for them to send me the correct replacement CD that I requested months ago. *laughs*
