Do you think it will happen? I think so, becuase google hired people who where working on the Android mobile operating system, and because they are making a bid for the old TV bandwidth which is going on auction in about two years. Im hoping for a free or cheap hardware platform with a google operating system and high speed internet over wifi or a cell phone network. What do you think. There have been rumors of executives at google looking at phone prototypes which I think are valid. Google definietly has something up its sleve, the question is it a cell phone? and if its ad based for free, would you actually go and get it??

It's not a phone; it's an OS (Google's Android). Rumor is that it's very iPhone-esque and will be given free to cell phone developers

hmm (*wonders if spart erik listens to This Week in Tech*) Im not so sure, I've heard rumors both ways. I really wish that it would be a phone b/c then it would probably be awesome. And if its not a phone, then why would google make a bid at the old low def. TV frequency (*wonders if google is going to brainwash America*) :p

If it was ad based and free, I'm sure tonnes of people would get it. And then they would hack the ads OUT of it :p

yea I suppose they would hack it but the funny thing is that when it gets released, It will probably talk to you while your walking and say (in a sweet anouncer like voice) "ARe you feeling like a fresh cappacino? If you make a left up ahead, you can go and grab one at the Starbucks. Or if you feel like a juicy hamburger, turn left and walk down to Burger king" lol, wouldn't that get annoying I can see it now "want some dirty movies, then turn go straight for Howes XXX movie store" Lol all the teenage boys will want that rofl :p

google is not interested in making end products. they build PLATFORMS to facilitate others to build the products. This might be an OS which helps others to launch their hardware... also, google is in the process if acquiring the 700MHz spectrum in the US. like i said, platform not products.

Hmm, a google OS for mobile devices... I know they were tossing around ideas for online desktops, that stream your desktop to your machine when connected, but I haven't heard anything about this yet. Curious if this will end up including Google Adsense or some such service... and how they would include that into a phone. What would they do? Monitor your position via GPS and see what stores you're close to? Or peek in on your text messages / email to get ad types to stream? Hmm. Curious.

It's probably an OS. I don't think google is going to go far enough to start manufacturing mobile phones though it would be pretty good if they did.

Initially People were expecting an IPhone from Google, but much to the disappointment only Google Android was announced. But an IPhone from Google is on the cards, I think.

Yeah, I agree completely. I work for an AT&T dealership, selling cellphones. There is no way google is going in the cell phone manufacturing market. They are into the development of software for phones, as there are already tons of apps compatible with many cellphones on the market. Such as google maps, and other similiar products.
