I bought Guitar Hero II and III. I like them. They are pretty fun. I just started playing the game for the first time and I like it. It is a bit challenging but it gets easier as you play it more.
I bought GH 3 on release day and have played GH2 at a friend's house in the past. Great buy a game that you can always pick up, play for 15 mins and still have a blast i highly recommend it.
GH games are awesome and they are worth purchasing. Though Rock Band is better overall compared to Guitar Hero, it costs like a 100 dollars more. Worth it if you ask me but GH games are still great.
Plus if you get the 360 version it comes with a USB guitar which enables you use it on the PC for Freetar Hero or Frets on Fire. They are basically gh clones but with custom songs.
Guitar hero is basicly a step down of DDR, exept it has around 100% more fail. but thinking about it, Amplitude and Frequency are also preaty awsome, I have the Homebrew version on my DS, and a Homebrew DDR on my PSP

It really doesn't matter if it's a step down from DDR. Watching people play DDR is like watching Richard Simmons dancing with fat people. It's upsetting and embarrassing. Guitar Hero makes you look like a bad ass rocker with a fisher price guitar.
They are DEFFINATELY worth the cash. not only is it an addicting single-player game, but in a gathering/party situation, it makes for a great game. Don't let the "but it's not a real guitar" thing change your mind, it's not meant to be a real guitar or replace playing habits, its jsut a fun game.
GH is a WONDERFUL game, but on the downside of it...i lose track of how many people i know have had their guitar break...so yea, its a great game...but the guitar will probly cause you problems if u play it ALOT, and i mean ALOT
If you don't own any of the other GH games, or haven't even played before, it's definitely worth picking up. You don't need any knowledge of playing guitar to play the game, nor will it teach you to play guitar (just as DDR does not teach one to dance). It's simplistic, but extremely fun. I would take it over a DDR game any day.
