Hello,

has anyone already played the Demo of Hellgate London? Is it Diablo 2 in 3D or just a plain shooter with special items?

regards,

Eh, similar to D2 in the sense that you have 'dungeons'(of course they are not called this) where you can go down level by level and kill stuff.

It is somewhat interesting as you can play it like a shooter, but you have melee weapons two, making it more interesting(ever played GUNZ?).

I don't know why you ask about the demo, as the full release is out already(released a bit too prematurely i'm afraid).

I didn't care too much for the game though. Maybe some people like it, but I just didn't find it as fun as any other game(D2, Guns, heck, even D1 for that matter).

Hellgate isn't a D2 remake in the sense of Titan Quest, and seems to have some significant bugs; but overall it's an okish game.

I am hoping online gameplay will be better.

It has quite a bit of potential, but the devs are clinging too hard to the Diablo II way of thinking. Thus, it has all the downfalls there were in D2. It seriously is D2 in 3d... sure there might be different camera views but as far as gameplay goes that's it.

In my opinion they screwed up badly. They made the mistake of catering too much to the "hardcore" players that were there since alpha, so almost all the casual players I know just get plain frustrated (still no respec... stupid devs).

They also ripped off all the beta testers by giving them a month-old client to test on while making posts about a "gold version" that was released when the game came out. They were asking us to report bugs they had fixed, and for that I hate Flagship Studios and sincerely hope they go out of business.

(I watched a friend play it)

The intro video / storyline setup is pretty awesome.

But then you get in to the actual game and the whole thing just feels generic and mediocre. Diablo II is better, maybe not graphics wise, but in just about every other way its superior.

(non-spoiler, since its in the first 3 minutes of gameplay) The part that really bugged me was that there was an NPC you have to talk to, and he's dying in the middle of the street huddled up. There are zombies/demons/whatever ALL AROUND HIM but do they go after him? Oh no, they just walk around like he's not even there. It's like they didn't even try.
