I downloaded WAMP and Netbeans ages ago, bought a big thick book called "Beginning PHP and MySQL" and finally thought i'd see if I could get a trial remote data website going here at x10. Well i've fallen at the first hurdle - when I try to start cPanel i get an error message. I've logged a trouble ticket (but guess should have posted here first). I'm on a WinXP machine at home connected to internet by ADSL through my ISP.
Does cPanel work with Windows ? please excuse my ignorance - i'm a 46 year old with very little programing experience, just lost my job, don't want to live the rest of my days in a cardboard box and am prepared to learn !! any advice appreciated...thx Andy.

Does cPanel work with Windows ?
YES. It(client) is platform independent.

Must be tough!

I couldn't get the remote data website thing?

Could you please elaborate a bit!

Thx - yeah, it's no joke.

I meant i'm ok connecting to localhost MySQL databases using PHP / Apache on my laptop - but i've never seen my own code work on a remote host (all simple stuff to you young guns i'm sure)

This following is the full text of what I apparently posted to a thread called cPanel earlier (didn't realise it actually went to a public thread, thought it was a trouble ticket sorta thing):-

from url: https://x10hosting.com/control/?hosting

when I press the command button called "Login to cPanel" a new browser window opens.

The following message is displayed:-

[a fatal error or timeout occurred while processing this directive]

I can click on this message and it expands to the following text:-

"can't write into /home/andystep/.cpanel/nvdata.cache: No such file or directory at /usr/local/cpanel/Cpanel/NVData.pm line 65

I have an ADSL connection at home provided by my ISP and am working on a WinXP machine.

Does cPanel not work with this configuration ?

Thx.

appreciate that maestro - expect some more stupid questions soon, so long as I remember to keep this going and don't freeze the account...
