Help with PhpBB update

I need help updating PhpBB3.0.0.0 to 3.0.0.1

I have chosen to update it by FTP, because there is 300 and something changed files and I can't be bothered to upload them all, but I can't get it to connect. I know I've got the username and password correct, but I keep getting the error:

Connection failed.
Unable to change directory.

I don't know what to do, as I am not very good at solving problems.

Here is what I have told it so far that I am not sure about:

Path to phpBB: /home/alexmac/forum/
FTP port: 21
FTP timeout: 10

Check the folder and file permissions, they need to be set to a level that allows you to change them. They should work at 0755.
