As important as the world attention to the growing crisis in the middle east is, the one thing that we really do have to remember is that none of these countries is truely any more than a regional bully.
Lebanon a county that for many years was able to blend the coexistance of Muslim, Christian and Jewish faiths has been embroiled in a brutal civil war. The government of that country has condoned the emplacement of Hezbollah (a United Nations named Terrorist Organization). In endorsing the safe housing, training and by giving them a base of operations to strike from, the entire country has made itself a target for reprisal.
Israel, a country founded by the guilt of European and North American guilt of not doing more to stop the attempted extermination of a faith/race by Facist Zealots in World War II. We as a collective endorsed and have continued to prop up the Jewish State. While all men have the inherent right to call somewhere home, at what expense is it considered ok to assume that in the very cradle of 3 of the most prolific religions the world has ever known could we expect that this action would not create what has been happening for the past 57 years. In fact what we call "freedom fighters" in 1949 during the creation of the Jewish State today would be condemned as radical fundamentalists or terrorists.
To bring us today. If there is really any suprise as to why the governments of the world are siding with Israel now it can simply be that nearly every member of the United Nations signed a joint treaty against terrorism in the 1990s. After the devastation of the September 11 bombings this was reinforced when the "global war on terror" began by not only members of NATO but with participants around the globe. The acts of terror perpetrated by Hezbollah are exactly that and if need be these cowardly criminals and social misfits need to be exterminated by what ever means necessary. This is not an ethnic cleansing but an act of Euthinasia (putting them out of our misery).
