I am trying to setup an SMF Forum using this host x10hosting... I followed this;
http://www.wikihow.com/Install-SMF-Forum-PHP-Software-on-Your-Server

but I get stuck when I get too

Go to your website, you should be directed to the installation page. If not, add install.php to the end of your site's address.

I have tried that, and typed in http://alist.x10hosting.com/install.php but I get 404 error, The page you requested is not available, please try again in a few minutes.

What else can I do? this is the first time I have tried to set up an SMF forum.

ah right I see... I uploaded them to the "(/home/alist)" folder?

how do I make the files go into the public folder? can I transfer them with the cpanel host thing, do I need to upload them again?

In Cpanel, Fielmanager , select required files&folders and then click move

Then you can give public_html folder to move them to.

As generic information, only the files are folders contained in the public_html folder will be displayed on the web.

Thankyou! I did that.

however now, http://alist.x10hosting.com/install.php leads to a page where I have to fill in SLQ details.

then,

Cannot connect to the MySQL database server with the supplied data.

If you are not sure about what to type in, please contact your host.
#07000(proxy) all backends are down
Click here to try this step again.

Where do I find these details? I made a database "User alist_alist was added to the database alist_alistadmin."

but I need to fill in
MySQL server name:
MySQL username:
MySQL password:
MySQL database name:
MySQL table prefix:

where do I get these from?

MySQL server name: localhost
MySQL username: cpanelusername_user
MySQL password: password
MySQL database name: cpanelusername_database
MySQL table prefix: smf_

Where you must create Username, password and database in cpanel by going in "MYSQL databases".

oh right thanks, do I move ALL the files, or just some?

all I have is the unzipped files I got with the SMF forum download
Edit:
MySQL server name: localhost
MySQL username: cpanelusername_user
MySQL password: password
MySQL database name: cpanelusername_database
MySQL table prefix: smf_

Where you must create Username, password and database in cpanel by going in "MYSQL databases".

when you say " cpanelusername_user" what do you mean?

my username on cpanel is "alist"... do I type that in, or what you said?

Now I get:

Cannot connect to the MySQL database server with the supplied data.

If you are not sure about what to type in, please contact your host.

Lost connection to MySQL server at 'waiting for initial communication packet', system error: 95
Click here to try this step again.
Edit:
wow, nevermind, I DID IT!

thanks for your help guys!!!

I always manually install. 9 times out of 10 when I use an auto-installer, something goes wrong.
Edit:
Why would you give a thumbs down to my opinion on auto-installers? I'm pretty tired of that ****.
I've waited so incredibly patiently on these ridiculous server problems, but I also have to deal with all of the rude children in this forum? What gives?
I think I'm pretty much done here.
Edit:
Come on, give me another one.
