I was talking with NedreN, and i suggested an idea saying that when they upgrade, they should install the [hide] hack.

I was thinking that because if you ever introduced another service to x10 that requited a port. I could put directions in my current post instructing an admin on how to edit the post to add that new service

Just incase you don't know this is a description of the hack.
vBulletin.org said:
[HIDE=x]text[/HIDE]
Text will be revealed to those, who posts are greater than or equal to "x".

[HIDE]text[/HIDE]
Same as above, however it utilizes the default amount of posts that youhave set up using your admincp (using the new vBulletin option).

[SHOWTOGROUPS=x]text[/SHOWTOGROUPS]
Text will be revealed only to members of usergroup(s) "x" (separated by commas).

The link to said hack
http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=97366&highlight=hide

by the way. He has 2 versions. He has the 30.00 dollar one(includes stuff you don't need) and he has the Free version.

BTW also it SHOULD go on the VERY bottom of the list of stuff to do. as it isn't important

I like this idea, I was thinking something like that would be useful for staff to post private comments.

Yes but many WAREZ related forums use those certain scripts. You don't want this to forum to look like a warez forum do you?

Well, obviously we don't want it looking like a warez board (not good for a host to have anti-warez rules but look like it promotes warez, :p), but here's a thought (not sure how to code it at all as my coding...sucks.) - the [Hide] tag hides the text enclosed to all users below the access level of the posting user.

That is, a normal every day run of the mill user like me, or the majority of users here, can use [hide], but it'll serve no effect, as it only hides the text to users below our access level, which there are none (or if there are, I'm guessing they're banned, and shouldn't be able to see the topics anyways!). However, if a mod uses it, since [hide] again hides the text to users below the current access level, us reggies can't see it...but the rest of the mods can :)

Edit before posting: reread the original post, sounds like what I just did was a [SHOWTOGROUPS=blah] suggestion where it shows it to all groups equal to and higher than the posters group :p I do like the idea though, although the modification I'm suggesting wouldn't help normal users.

well im just saying its good for certing instructions for well posted posts

*cough*http://x10hosting.com/showthread.php?t=13706*cough* where it gets locked so people don't spam it. Well, if X10 were to add another service, there could be instructions only shown to mods and admins telling them how to edit the post to add the new service port.

Do we REALLY need to hide stuff?

I doubt that I would ever use it.

Sharing is caring. Hiding, is.. the devil unless it's your porn under your bed. We should all know that.

I just think it's good in some cases, for example when we need to remove an url or post comments that WE should only know.

It takes less then 8 minutes to install and is free. I see why not it doesn't change the forum that much.

its not really free

you have to prove that you own a valid copy of vbulletin

but after that, it is free

I really dont see the need for this. Staff dont need it at all. Why would you want to hide tutorials and stuff ??? that doesnt make sense.

Not really hide, for example: A user detects a violating Site and posts it. Then he hides the URL so that only we staff see it. That along with IP's and stuff that shouldn't really be known.

Also, it may not be posible till the forums are updated to the 3.5 version.

That would be very useful, but hiding messages from people that don't have X amount of messages doesn't like a great idea..

Yeah, there would be no point. SHOWTOGROUPS sounds good.
