Hosts file was a real help to me when I was using windows but after moving over to Mac (Apple) it was no longer an issue. Back then this was the site I used to update the hosts file. They had quite a list I must say.

I do but not for ad blocking. What were you redirecting that doesn't need to be on your mac?

I still use it, Unchecky (thing to help avoid accidental drive-by-installer-BS) added a bunch of entries, and I followed up with a bunch of my own from known spam/scam sites that have a habit of using URL's similar to ones I'd normally want to view (preventing me from typo'ing myself to a weekend reformatting from a virus :) ).

Hi sharky, was using the host file when on windows to "prevent" contracting viruses when visiting certain websites. So the host files made sure my PC won't get to those websites in the first place.
But with mac it was not an issue because the viruses just "won't run on a mac"
