Domain names are transferable, talk to your registrar.

You don't. You either realize that x10 has the best free hosting you will ever find, or you use that to realize that their paid services must be really great too, so it's all you'll ever need.

But seriously, should you ever decide to leave, then how to get your stuff onto a different host, depends in large part on what kind of content you've got. If it's all just HTML and other such code, in files that you uploaded or edited, then copy 'em back down (if you edited them here), and upload 'em elsewhere. If you've got databases, you have to export the data here and import there. There will probably be additional configuration and so on, that you will have to redo over there.

Lastly, when you're all done and gone, please "turn out the lights" by pointing your DNS to the new host (if need be) and deleting your account here, so as not to drain x10's resources unnecessarily.

That depends on where you bought it and under what terms. I have no idea what terms x10 sells domains under. I bought all of mine elsewhere (GoDaddy), so I can take them wherever I want. Review your registrar's agreement.

Question : If your new host is so great, why aren't you going to them for this advice?

Answer : because x10 are actually better, & the Community & Support here is the first place people turn to when they need help.

When you realise this, you'll be back! ;)

I can't believe this was even asked here. LOL

As zen-r said, why aren't you asking your new host? Can they not provide decent support? If not, I wouldn't select them.

Ok, i will make it simple.
First go to your cpanel>>Backup Wizard>>Backup>>Full Backup>>Click Generate Backup.
Then restore this backup to your new host. Your new host should help you with this procedure.

And also dont forget to update your nameservers.
thanks for using x10hosting.
bye.....tc... :)

Unfortunately, unless I'm mistaken the Backup Wizard was removed from cPanel in Free hosting around the time of the server upgrades.

The easiest way to transfer from x10Hosting to another server hosting company is to log into FTP, download all of your files via FTP, and then use phpMyAdmin to download a non-compressed version of your MySQL databases, and then also take note of what settings you used for your site. From there you can upload the files via FTP to your new host, upload the new database file to their server (via copy/paste or direct file upload) and apply the settings. Sure, it's a bit more work than doing a full account backup, but it keeps hassles regarding the full move away. For your domain, just park the new domain in your new host's servers and point the domain names to use the name servers of your new host (and then hope that the DNS doesn't take any more than 2 hours to propogate. 2 days max of DNS propagation these days is very, very lame when DNS updates come to me within seconds for both my home's DNS cache and my domain's DNS records).

It is a bit of work, but it does ensure that if you can do these, you'll have no problems getting up and running. And of course, if you have any scripts or files that are path based, be sure to update those as well according to your new host's settings, and then of course once things are good to go, delete your x10Hosting account by asking a Staff member to delete it.
