How do i unzip a .gz file while its on my FTP

Your help section says, and i quote!

• • Download e107 in tar.gz format from e107.org
  • Using your FTP client, upload the tar.gz to your webserver without unzipping it first
  • Now open a shell prompt, and navigate to the folder where you uploaded the e107 tar.gz

  and type tar xvzf file.tar.gz to unpack the archive.

can someone please give me information on a shell prompt

i do have the correct permissions

That requires SSH on the server, you don't have a clearence high enough.

put ur tar.gz file in the folder u want to extract.
then go to cpanel -> file manager -> navigate to ur folder where u have ur tar.gz file, click on that file, on the right side of ur page will show an option extract this file contents. click on it, and voila

And btw, latest e107 v0.7 onwards needs some modifications in some files to work on x10hosting

Not putting fantastico down or anything but in order to stay current you really have to upload the latest version of the software you want. Fantastico is great but it`s not kept as up-to-date as the software that comes out.. ie: bug fixes and patches.
