All my emails sent via PHP show up as this in my email:
Code:
FROM: bret@ringrong.com via web2.vital.x10hosting.com

That's just fine, other than the fact that it gets put in spam folders on most email providers. How do I change it from getting sent via web2.vital.x10hosting.com? I'm running a social network and it's quite hard to get members if they never get the registration email...

Set up Google Apps for your domain.
Follow their instructions to set the MX records so your incoming mail goes to the Google Account.
Your site software should have an option (or plugin) to use SMTP to an outside server instead of PHP's mail() function. Set it to use your Google Apps account. Then the 'From' will be a Google server and shouldn't be blocked or end up in spam folders.

I do have Google Apps set up and the MX records are pointed at the Google Account.

How do I change the SMTP? Would I find that in cPanel or Google Apps?

It would be part of your site software, WordPress or Joomla , etc.

I'm not running any software on my site. I'm just hosting it on x10hosting.

Sorry if I'm sounding like a noob, I've never really messed with SMTP before...
