I am not convinced yet that a computer is better for gaming or vice versa. I have always favored the keyboard + mouse interface for certain genres (strategy, First-Person Shooter, etc); yet a console's joypad is better for others (action, platforming, etc). Although it is interesting to see the two being combined: consoles are begining to evolve to better suite the genres they previously neglected while PCs are offering peripherals for their downfalls.

I also enjoy how I never need to worry about hardware with the consoles. Wyhile I'm paying a premium for this (an equivalent computer is usually cheaper then a console), it is still a valid point to bring up. It also backfires, however, because a computer can be upgraded in portions while a console will age and die out, only to be used for those "retro" feeling days.

The mouse provides more precision at an instant than any other type of controller. I know people that like the controller better, but that's because they probably just play with it more, so they like it more.

Also, as far as consoles being more powerful.. maybe a bit. But you can't upgrade them, really. They aren't customizable to the extent that PCs are. For example, right now I'm typing this, on 2 vent servers, AIM, and WoW, while listening to iTunes. You can't do that on a console.

As others have said PC's tend to have more power than gaming consoles...and they are right. I usually only play video games on my PC. I actually like it better than playing on consoles. While you can't necessarily play multiplayer games on it with your friends (at the same house unless you have multiple computers) it is still a lot of fun. For big parties and things like that I think that a gaming console better suits that purpose. A computer can be used for so many things nowadays it's a necessity...so why not make it do even more? I like how I can buy a gaming mouse for the PC. As of right now there are many mice out there that even have adjustable faceplates and weighting cartrages. The technology just keeps getting better and faster.

In addition, consoles have little RAM (about 512MB) compared to PCs. So things can slow down when the action heats up.
That sometimes does not hold true. Remember that on the PC you have to run the OS (which if is windows vista, it is a RAM hog) and then the game, leaving you with less usable RAM in the end. Hence the need for more RAM to run games smoothly compared to gaming consoles.

Computers are going to be ahead of consoles in terms of power for a while. I can't see this trend ever changing. Also, while I'm not use to the keyboard myself, I know many people who swear by keyboard-and-mouse.

Strategy games that require a lot of selecting are a pain on consoles, and I prefer FPS on a PC.

Hi, i was just wondering if there's any point on playing games on the PC because you have to use a keyboard and mouse to control the game. I don't think computers should be used for games, weather they are sofware packages or online flash games ect...

I don't see any point in playing games on the PC when we have powerful gaming consoles like the PS3 and XBOX 360. The PS3 is much more powerful than most computers and they are made for gaming. Plus the graphics are much better as the disks can hold up to 50GB so that would mean that HD graphics and sounds are available. With so many features available on a console that's made for gaming, do you think we should still use PCs to play games or not?

Sorry man, but........

Whenever someone tells me a console provides better gaming than a PC, I ask them what kind of PC they have. The conversation usually ends there.
