How easy it is for people to steal your account details for online games - example

I was bord and was just doing my random internet surfing, and so i went to youtube and searched "Gaia Gold Hacks" and was suprised that all, if not most, of them were basicly a "Use this program to get gold, just enter your username and password"
and through some more digging, i found the number of people complaning about getting hacked that way amazing. I though goatse was incredable, but the number of people who fell for it was better.

So i made a short video on how easy it is to make a good looking "Bot" for gaia, that even looks like its doing its job in the task manager.

The total time, from start up of IDE, to getting ex-friends gaia account details was about half an hour. its speed up to just under 10 min, and its solid video, except for a couple parts were i cut it out to hide critical passwords/other data

Although i hope no one here would fall for something like that, send it to your friends who you know might fall for something like this.

and its not limited to Gaia, any online game or comminuty can be affected by something like this.

My sister plays gaia, but I DONT KNOW WHY! IT LOOKS SO HORRIBLE AND CRAPPY.
I don't see why ppl play it. I only know of anime lovers who play it...

Its a waste of time making a hacking thing for a stupid game.

It depends on the game really, there are many types of hacking... Brute force is the most popular one, it can take months to get into someones account like that though...

I resent that. I am not an "Anime" freak, nor is the friends that I know that play it ( range in age from 16 - late 40's ).
Why do some people play WoW? To me, its a stupid, pointless game. But its popular. Why do some people play on Neopets? Its a popular game as well.

But to classify those that play on Gaia as "Anime freaks" is a bit harsh.

I've known it's easy to make a bot that will hack your account, if people can sit around and make those programs in under a half hour, then that's no suprise for me. I wish people would stop taking shortcuts, getting their accounts hacked when they should play the game the right way or $$ up.

I believe the slowness is intended so that people who do happen to come across the video don't see the code that he used to make the bot, and to save uploading time and viewing time.

Not really. Just make up a list of accounts and perform a dictionary attack on all of them - you'd be AMAZED how many people use common English words and phrases as their password.

Of course, if that fails, there's always good old social engineering... Again, you'd be amazed what you can get out of someone after only talking to them for a couple days, at best. At worst, maybe a couple weeks.

Back when I played Gaia I built a bot which posted in a spam thread (They allow threads to boost your gold). It simply posted a new post in the thread every 2 minutes. It was easy to make too. Written in Autoit3. I might have the code lying around if anyone needs it.

I don't see the point in using someone else's account though. That is just like stealing an account, making them tons of (Insert random currency here), then they report you, and you get your account+all that (Insert random currency here) as well.

It's funny, because if you get hacked that way in WoW, you have like a 90% chance to get all your stuff back. I guess if you pay for a game, they aren't so picky about restoring hacked accounts, and it's thus not as big a deal. I mean even if someone skimps out on a deal, if they agree to it in chat, they'll get penalized >.>

Overall, if you give anyone you don't know your username/password for anything, you're just dumb.

I guess after a while many users could be easily hacked. Imagine if you could do something like that for WoW and then get a bunch of accounts and sell it for eBay.

But that would be extremely terrible, and a negative thing to do xd
