It's now 140p/ltr, which (I think) works out at $8.70 per U.S. Gallon. When I started driving it was 70p/ltr .

And this just makes it worse... it was about £1/ltr cheaper when I was born!

I very recently bought a bicycle and a small back pack to carry stuff around in. Using it to go back and forth to market, post office, and other errands. I am getting much needed exercise and saving money on gasoline. At the current price of gas, (which will no doubt keep rising), I expect the money I am saving on fuel will fully pay for the cost of the bicycle in less than two months. Obviously cannot use it for all of my transportation needs, but I can use it for many.

Or invest in a few 'mopeds' 120 miles per 1 gal. of regular gasoline.. :) I had purchased a set though they both took a dump on me earlier last year. Though, the way gas prices are rising it may be worth the investment to get them fixed.

No alternative for me, though :/

Marginally under 100 miles round trip per day, 90% of which motorway/ dual carriageway.
