We have an existing WordPress web site. We would like to clone this web site on our free x10hosting site, so we can use the clone as a test site to try things out without disturbing our active web site.
To this goal, we have created a WordPress web site on our free x10hosting site. Just a simple installation, using Scriptaculous.
We have installed two WordPress plug-ins on our active web site: Duplicator and WP Clone.
First, we tried WP Clone: we used it to create a Backup of our site, and then installed WP Clone on the new WordPress site. Then we tried doing a restore from the URL of the created backup. It failed with lots of errors, seemingly to do with running out of file quota or some such. It might have been while trying to expand the backup file.
Then, we tried Duplicator: we used it to create a 'package' and install.php file. This two files are intended to be downloaded from the original web site and then uploaded to the new web site, in a place where the web server can access them. With both files present, we should then be able to execute the install.php file, set some appropriate parameters, and then cause it to install the clone into the WordPress site. The problem here is that the package file is something over 700Mb, and we could find no way to upload that. The FTP client I tried fails a little over halfway through. (Note, this is not a large, not complex web site.)
So, my question is: How can we accomplish this? WordPress is a very popular CMS, and surely there must be a tried and true way of accomplishing what we want. Any advice would be much appreciated!
Thanks!
