Have you any ideas on how to do? Post them. How and where to advertise and how and where not. Any good SEO tips? All must be free. Im not asking this for my own sake, Im asking this for everyone out there that has an unpopular site and hasn't any idea how to get visitors free in a good way, including me.

You could try passing on to your friends, everyone on your mailing list, buddies advertise it on your signature. Post your site on the forums. It all depends on how good you are at marketing.....:)

First, I have no friends that want to visit my site, second I have no Mailing list. I'm posting my site on every forum I know including here.

But that would count as "spamming" and you would have even less friends.
You have to ask yourself the question
- Why do I visit Websites?
- What's on my Website, that makes people stay?

If the Website is just about yourself, do you have any interesting hobbies, you could write, or even blog, about?
Maybe link to other pages, who are interested in the same area. If you ask, some of them are more than happy to provide a link back to your page.

I don't think, one gets more visitors just for free. You need to put quite some effort in your page. The web is just too big, so users don't spend much time on bad Websites and most likely never return.

Just my 2cent.

A good way to have something on your website that people might enjoy is a forum.

If you have a forum, and sections where there are very strict rules, and sections where there are very loose rules, more people might join, and stay.

I've found that many people like to talk, and nearly everyone wants to hear what other people have to say, even if it is only to laugh at them.

Advertising isn't about getting visitors for free. If it were, Google wouldn't bother with AdSense, webhosts wouldn't bother with ad-enhanced plans (most free hosts wouldn't exist!), and web sites would have huge problems because no one wants to host ads and not get paid for people clicking those links and going off to other sites and give them a higher PageRank or whatever. The best things in life usually come at a cost (from a realist's perspective, anyway), so you have to be prepared to invest some resources into advertising. Just like you have to buy a domain if you want a 99% guarantee there aren't any strings attached (not saying there are with any specific registrars, but just in general).

OK, long-winded speech finished. :lol:

You need to offer something in your website that others might not. You could try hosting flash games (copyrights permitting of course) for kids at school to play, or better yet make a website that filters won't block by making it "educational" and put games and other things on it. Then by word of mouth, you've got a start for making a popular website.

* Well, First concentrate on your site's content.
* Then, go for Search-Engine-Optimizations.
* Submit your site to MSN, Yahoo!, Google and DMOZ (preferably, in the same order mentioned above).
* Put your site URL in popular Forum signature's and post quality threads and replies (select the forums that are relevant to your site's content).
* Post in Newsgroup.
