Can anyone suggest a good source of information for including videos on a website? I will shortly have a video of a presentation and I'd like to be able to include it on a site.i do not know what format it will be in or which ones are the most suitable.

Many thanks

http://www.longtailvideo.com/players/jw-flv-player/

I use the JW FLV Player on my site. There are plugins and skins available for it. My videos are high quality H.264 MPEG-4 (MP4). This format also produces smaller file sizes. This is a nice plus because old DivX/Xvid looks horrible in comparison.

They also have a Wizard to create the HTML code:

Handbrake
http://handbrake.fr/

Handbrake is a good starting off program to convert to MP4. There are others like MeGUI but are for more advanced users. SO KEEP THE ORIGINAL VIDEO in case you want to dive into that later.

I would use the html5 video tag (Draft spec. of the tag here)-- this is the new "standard" way of embedding video using ogg theora - you can find ogg theora encoders here. Since not all browsers support that tag yet, there is a handy javascript (GPL v2) provided by metavid.org, which lets any browser play the video, and it can use a java based applet video player if your browser doesn't happen to have an ogg plugin. If you use the html 5 video system + this javascript, your video will play on almost any browser without any problems, no matter what plugins or software you have on the computer.

Please don't use flash, it is slow, horrible, and proprietary.
