htaccess.txt -> .htaccess

Hi !
I have been feeling the heat due to Joomla Search Engine Optimization.
Earlier I created a thread for the same, but Corey closed it.
Now after lots of homework, I have few questions:

Is mod_rewrite enabled in Apache ?

Does x10 support support SymLinks ?

And does x10 allow me to use my own .htaccess file ?

Please HELP me !

PS:

When i changed htaccess.txt to .htaccess and enabled SEF, most SE-Friendly-looking URLs returned 404 Error !
